The Hotel Playa del Sol is located in the heart of Los Barriles and is the site of the Vela Baja windsurf center. This property has true Baja flare with its open beach-front setting, relaxing atmosphere, and communal feel. Most Vela guest choose to stay at the Playa del Sol because of its immediate proximity to the windsurfing and because it is where the action is. From most rooms you will have great views of the sailing area and the day-to-day goings-on within the small windsurf community you will be a part of during your trip.

This cozy resort has a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining areas, 2 full-service bars plus, heated swimming pool, 25 rooms to choose from (Garden View, Poolside, Oceanfront) and is home to the Vela Baja Windsurf Center.

ROOM OPTIONS

Garden Rooms:
Tucked back behind the upwind Poolside building, guests often choose these rooms when they want to get a little space between them and the hub of action at the Vela center. Rooms have 1 Double bed and either 1 or 2 Single beds, private bath, A/C, mini-fridge, and sliding glass doors with chairs. Maximum Ocuupancy 4.

Poolside Rooms:
Two single-level buildings each facing the pool and main hotel courtyard where everything takes place throughout the day. Rooms have 1 Double bed and either 1 or 2 Single beds, private bath, A/C, mini-fridge, and sliding glass doors with chairs. Maximum Occupancy 4.

Oceanfront Rooms:
The only multi-level building with lodgings, these rooms are slightly larger and are closer towards the ocean and are therefore desireable. Still only a short walk (crawling distance, really) to get to the boards on the racks each day. All rooms have 1 Double bed plus 2 Single beds, private bath, A/C, mini-fridge, and sliding glass doors with chairs. Maximum Occupancy 4.

OF NOTE

Got kids? This is a great location to meet new friends and to explore the beach or romp in the heated pool. Plus, with children's playground equipment as well as plenty of lawn space to run, you can maybe get them tired out early enough to catch up on sleep yourself!

A heated pool makes a great place to warm up after a session, especially if you are thin-skinned!

First-time visitors are sometimes surprised to find that the resort is somewhat basic. Keep in mind that for 9 months out of the year, this place is home to countless fishermen with a little more felxibility on luxuries. The secret to our program is everything that the human element provides: both from our incredible and entertaining staff plus from our wonderful guests, a recipe that keeps many coming back every year.

The excellent new bar located upstairs on the patio of the restaurant is sure to become a definite hangout spot, though being along the poolside palapa bar with the wind in your face is sure great too... oh well: have a margarita at each then!
